Friends & Collections

Welcome to Our Collections

We moved our museum, collection by collection into Llanfair Connections at the
Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway (
www.wllr.org.uk) in June/July 2022.

Since then we have begun a long-term project to reorganise what arrived in Llanfair Caereinion as a number of separate collections into a proper themed museum.

The first phase of this was successfully carried out over the winter of 2023-24 when the collection of our founder Gillian Rogers was brought together on two walls and all of our Formula One cars were placed on the opposite wall to begin our 'Wall of F1' project to collect one example of every F1 car that has ever been - that's over 1,000, it goes up by ten each year, and we currently have around 500!

We planned to start work on the centre of the museum in the winter of 2024-25 but this was delayed by the potential availability of a second room which the Cloverlands team built the walls for. The anticipated much needed extra display space has already been allocated, partly by a magnificent collection of Bugatti models that belonged to our Trustee Max Tomlinson who sadly passed away at the end of 2024.

We are currently working to complete the second room and will then turn back to our plans for the centre of the museum, which are to theme the displays including the story of motoring told decade by decade in model cars, and the rise and fall of the British model car, telling the story of Dinky, Corgi and Matchbox and how Hot Wheels destroyed them all...

This is a major project and how quickly it comes to fruition will depend to a great deal on resources, both people and finance! We are a very small team with very limited resources. If you would like to get involved with the museum you will be made very welcome, you can contact us here
